In this captivating historical saga, the critically acclaimed author of The Godfather, Mario Puzo, weaves a tale of one of the most notorious families in history: the Borgias. With vivid prose and meticulous research, Puzo transports readers to the tumultuous world of Renaissance Italy, where power, corruption, and redemption are intertwined.
This two-novel volume includes The Family and The Godfather's Daughter, offering a comprehensive and engrossing portrait of the Borgia dynasty. In The Family, we follow the rise of Rodrigo Borgia to the papacy as Pope Alexander VI. A ruthless and ambitious man, Alexander VI uses his power to advance the interests of his family, including his children Cesare and Lucrezia.
In The Godfather's Daughter, we follow Lucrezia Borgia as she navigates the treacherous world of Renaissance politics. Married three times, Lucrezia is a pawn in the hands of her father and brothers. However, she is also a strong and resourceful woman, and she eventually finds her own path to power.
Through the lens of the Borgia family, Puzo explores the complex themes of power, corruption, and redemption. The Borgias are a family of contradictions. They are ruthless and ambitious, but they are also capable of great love and loyalty. They are corrupt, but they are also deeply religious.
In the end, the Borgias are a cautionary tale about the dangers of power. Power can corrupt even the best of us, and it can lead to our downfall. But it can also be a force for good, and it can be used to make a difference in the world.
