Early Life
Deborah Harry was born on July 1, 1945, in Miami, Florida. Her mother was a country singer and her father was a jazz musician. Harry began singing at a young age, and she formed her first band, The Wind in the Willows, in high school. After graduating from high school, Harry moved to New York City to pursue a career in music.
Blondie
In 1974, Harry met guitarist Chris Stein. The two formed the band Blondie, which quickly became one of the most popular new wave bands of the 1970s. Blondie's first album, Blondie, was released in 1976 and featured the hit singles "X Offender" and "Rip Her to Shreds." The band's second album, Plastic Letters, was released in 1977 and featured the hit singles "Denis" and "Heart of Glass." Blondie's third album, Parallel Lines, was released in 1978 and was the band's most successful album, featuring the hit singles "Sunday Girl" and "One Way or Another." Blondie's fourth album, Eat to the Beat, was released in 1979 and featured the hit single "Dreaming." Blondie's fifth album, Autoamerican, was released in 1980 and featured the hit single "The Tide Is High." Blondie disbanded in 1982, but the band has reunited several times since then.
Solo Career
Harry began her solo career in 1981 with the release of her album Koo Koo. The album featured the hit single "Backfired." Harry's second solo album, Rockbird, was released in 1986 and featured the hit single "French Kissin' in the U.S.A." Harry's third solo album, Debravation, was released in 1993 and featured the hit single "I Want That Man." Harry's fourth solo album, Necessary Evil, was released in 2007.
Acting Career
Harry has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Union City (1980),Videodrome (1983),Hairspray (1988),Cop Land (1997),and 30 Rock (2006-2013). Harry has also appeared in several Broadway musicals, including Chicago (1997) and Hair (2009).
Personal Life
Harry has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Eldon Titus from 1971 to 1974. Her second marriage was to Chris Stein from 1980 to 1989. Harry has no children.
Awards and Honors
Harry has won numerous awards and honors for her work, including a Grammy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Tony Award. Harry was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
